What Is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) derived from the ACTH(4-10) fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension. That extension removes the hormonal (corticotropic) activity of the parent fragment while dramatically improving resistance to enzymatic degradation. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it has been used clinically in Russia since the 1990s.
